The Most Dangerous Place for Kids
Next to the school grounds, the school bus or family car can be the most dangerous place for kids if you’re not careful. Many schoolchildren die from car accidents yearly. To protect your child, follow the guidelines below.
For school bus riders:
Check the appearance of the vehicle and its driver. Know the kind of license he’s carrying and if he has any bad record.
If you can’t bring the kids to school yourself, it’s best to deal with bus drivers accredited by the school itself. Don’t entrust your child to strangers.
Bus windows should have protective coverings to prevent kids from sticking out their hands or heads while the vehicle is moving.
The bus should have enough hand rails for children to hold on to.
If possible, accompany your child on the first ride to know where the bus goes, how fast it runs, and how long it takes before it reaches your home.
For car owners and/or drivers, here are some safety rules from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Complete Home Medical Guide:
Never drive when you feel sleepy, tired, or ill. Don’t attempt to drive after drinking or taking any drug that may impair reflexes, cause drowsiness, or alter judgment.
Always wear your safety belt and make sure that all passengers do the same. Babies and young children should always be securely fastened in safety seats.
Know in advance what to do in a crisis. Know how to pull out of a skid on a slippery road.
Know and observe local safety regulations regarding such things as speed limits and rules of turns.
Always be aware of what other drivers are doing. Drive defensively and remain calm when dealing with other drivers who are rude, careless or speeding.
Watch out for bicycle riders, motorcyclists, joggers, and animals.
Don’t be distracted by conversations, the car radio, arguments, or the scenery.
Enforce rules regarding horseplay or poor behavior in the car. If necessary, pull off the road and stop the car and put an end to distracting behavior.
Don’t attempt to drive during a heavy downpour or other bad weather that affects visibility and road conditions. If you must drive at such times, make sure the car is properly equipped with appropriate devices and that you know what to do in case of skids or other hazardous situations.
Be sure your view is unobstructed by passengers, packages, or other objects.

Teenage Drivers
The main goal of a teenager turning 16 years old is getting their driver’s license. Most teenage driver’s think they know how to drive just because they can drive down the road. Teenage drivers don’t understand that there are different situations and distractions that come along with driving.
Things that can affect a person driving is drinking, multi-tasking, cell phones, stress, emotions, and not being able to recognize certain situations that can cause an accident.
What if you find out a loved one is in critical condition at the hospital or what if you get into a fight with a girlfriend or boyfriend? What happens? Your emotions take over. When this happens pull over off the roadway. Give yourself time to settle down. You may need to take a short walk or do something relaxing. Do not drive at this time, because you put yourself and other driver’s at risk of a driving accident.
A teen driver usually has a curfew. You need to remember not to get in a hurry. Give yourself time to get home without speeding or driving wreckless. Being impatient or rushing can cause you to get a speeding ticket or be involved in an accident. There are too many teens that lose their lives in these types of situations. If you happen to be late call home and explain the situation to your parents.
Another serious situation is road rage. You can accidentally do something or make a mistake that can upset another driver or cause an accident. The best thing to do if you’ve cause the error is admit the mistake and sincerely apologize.
Remember, teens need to drive smart.
Always keep your eyes on the road and scan ahead of your vehicle so that you can recognize a problem before you get there.
Use a hands-free device for cell phones.
Buckle up!
Remember, drinking and driving can cause fatal accidents. Please, do not drink and drive! If you have drunk any alcoholic beverages allow someone that is sober to drive you to your destination.
Please remember to follow all rules and regulations of driving.

Summer Activities for Kids
Summer is one of the best seasons for kids to have fun. There is so much to do because the kids are out of school and the weather is great. The days are also long so there is plenty of time to pack a summer full of activities.
Depending on what you have available, where you live, and what you want to do, there are several field trips you can go on. The zoo is usually open during the summer. In most states there are a good 5 or 6 zoos to choose from and each has something special about it. You could spend a few days checking out different zoos.
There are also a lot of water parks open all over the country during the summer months. Water slides are a huge part of these theme parks and kids absolutely love them. Other theme parks are open as well, such as Disney, Busch Gardens, Hershey, and lots more. No matter where you live you should be able to find something fun to take the kids to do for a day.
If you don’t want to spend money on fun, there is still a lot to do. Most cities have a public pool area, and a lot of places offer swimming lessons usually for pretty cheap, if not free. If you don’t have a pool in your area you could always hook up a hose and sprinkler, the cost is just for the water used, and the kids usually have a lot of fun.
Another idea for summer activities is going to the local state park. The beaches, trails, camping and boating would definitely keep the kids busy for quite some time. Most parks let them bring their bikes as well.
There are other things you can do around your own house to entertain the kids during the summer. They can play sports outside, but should drink a lot of water. You could go hiking in the woods behind your house, or a friend’s house. Summer afternoons are a great time to take a walk in your neighborhood, and the kids can jump through other people’s sprinklers, but only those that come out to the sidewalk. It might not be such a good idea to let them run through all the lawns.
If it is a rainy day, but muggy, you could let the kids dance in the rain, even in their bathing suits. You might want to stay in side and be air conditioned and watch movie together, or even better, go to a movie together. The summer season is one of the biggest times of the year that blockbuster movies are released.
When it comes to summer vacation, one thing is for sure, parents always get worried about keeping their kids occupied and kids just want to have fun. Keep these simple things in mind when planning your summer: Kids want to get wet, be outside and have their friends around, with these in mind, you are good to go when it comes to planning.

Tips for Picking Out Children Clothing
A person shopping for children clothing should keep in mind, that kids have their own personal tastes. These tastes are not the same as the child’s mother or father, no matter how much mom wishes her child would wear something she thinks is absolutely darling.
This also means that the child’s tastes won’t be the same as the shoppers, so beware picking out an item of clothing for a child simply because you personally like it. If you are going shopping to pickup children clothing as a gift for a child you may want to take that child with you. He or she will be able to participate in the shopping process to ensure that they get clothing they’ll like and that they’ll wear on a regular basis. Plus, you are still giving a great gift to your niece, nephew or god child.
If it’s not possible to take the child with you when you are about to go shopping for that important gift of clothing, a second option is taking the parents or asking the parents about the child’s tastes. They are after all the secret bearers of their kid’s innermost yearnings and fashion desires.
Getting Children’s Clothing Information from ParentsA simple phone call and a mention that you’ll be planning on picking up a new shirt and pair of pants for the little one will be sufficient to get the parents talking. Before you hang up the phone you should have the child’s size, favorite color, favorite movies, sports or characters and clothing styles written down.
Some kids have allergies to certain fabrics. Make sure to confirm with the parents what kind of fabric they prefer and if there are any allergies to worry about. Some parents simply prefer a fabric because it’s easier to clean, such as cotton.
The child may also have a need for specialty items, like dress wear. You’ll be able to find out from the parents if the child you are shopping for needs a new tie, or classy shoes for a special occasion.
You can also keep in mind a few basic things about shopping for children clothing when you go. Kids are notorious for growth spurts. If it looks like the kid you are shopping for is due for a growth spurt soon you may want to purchase a size larger in clothing. This gives them a little room for growing and you know that your gift will last longer.
Kids also tend to get dirty. Heavy duty clothing like jeans are a great idea for the rough and tumble types and they are easy to clean. Cotton is an easy fabric to get clean of stains. White clothing and underwear can be safely bleached by parents without worrying about colors leaching from the fabric.
Above all when shopping for children clothing keep in mind the styles that you’ve seen the child wearing. They’ll appreciate the thought you put into your purchase and there’s half a chance that they’ll actually wear the clothing you buy them.
